Filipino vlogger and florist Carmelito Paredes Carom, known online as “Losamath,” was found dead in his room in Riyadh in the early hours of June 4, 2025. Authorities suspect suicide and have ruled out foul play.
Carom gained popularity on TikTok through his comedic skits where he dressed as a fictional character named “Madam,” often portraying humorous interactions with customers at his flower shop. His content resonated widely during the pandemic, attracting not just fellow Filipinos but also Saudi citizens who flocked to his workplace to meet and take photos with him.
Despite the Kingdom’s traditionally strict dress code, Carom was not sanctioned for dressing as a woman in his videos, as the police clarified that he filmed his content only after business hours, with the support of coworkers. In recent years, Saudi Arabia has relaxed some of its rules on clothing, particularly for women, and has shown greater tolerance so long as modesty is maintained in public.
Carom’s final social media post read, “Panginoon, ikaw na bahala sa pamilya ko,” sparking deep concern among his followers. His last known interview was in September 2024, where he opened up about his struggles behind the laughter. “’Lord, I offer my life to you,’ ang sarap pakinggan na kantang ‘yan… ang akala kasi ng tao lagi lang ako masaya pero deep inside marami din akong problema,” he shared, revealing his pain masked by humor.
News of his death has deeply shaken the Filipino community in Saudi Arabia, with over 800,000 kababayans collectively mourning the loss of one of their own.
