Filipino swimmer in UAE secures third place finish at international open-water championship

A Filipino open-water specialist earned a podium finish at the Oceanman World Championship in Dubai, marking a standout moment for the Philippines at the global competition held on December 7, 2025.

Wilmorn Rhys Icasencia, a Palawan-born swimmer and Dubai resident, completed the 10-kilometer race in 2:45:26. His performance placed him third in his age group in the open category, joining other Filipino athletes who also achieved strong results during the event.

The endurance race assembled competitors from several continents, drawing strong contenders from nations such as the USA, Mexico, China, the UK, and Switzerland. Among all male swimmers in the 10km Open Category, Icasencia delivered a sixth-place overall finish, underscoring the high level of competition.

Away from competition, he serves as a coach at Aquatix Dubai, where he trains swimmers and triathletes and works closely with Filipino athletic groups, including the 3F Striders Triathletes. His role in the community has grown in recent years as he continues to mentor both beginners and seasoned athletes.

“I dedicate this victory to my fellow Filipinos and to everyone who has supported my journey,” Icasencia said after completing the race. “It is an honor to represent the Philippines on the world stage and to inspire the next generation of swimmers.”
