Filipino sitters to care for US patients without leaving the Philippines in first-ever virtual setup

A new healthcare initiative is opening doors for Filipino sitters and nurses to support patients in the United States—without ever leaving the Philippines.

US-based companies Worldwide HealthStaff Solutions and Worldwide Resource Solutions are launching a first-of-its-kind virtual sitting operation in the country, with headquarters in Quezon City. The setup allows Filipino sitters to remotely monitor up to 15 patients in US hospitals through live cameras and laptops, enabling real-time communication with on-site caregivers and nurses abroad.

“We will have staff members here… connected with health facilities in America in real time, 24/7, 365,” said Ron Hoppe, CEO of Worldwide HealthStaff Solutions and President of Worldwide Resource Solutions, in an ABS-CBN News report. He emphasized that this setup allows sitters in the Philippines to relay urgent concerns directly to hospital staff in the US.

The system enhances efficiency by allowing fewer workers to monitor more patients—while improving patient safety through early intervention, such as preventing accidental falls. According to Hoppe, the model is expected to rapidly grow beyond the initial 20 hired sitters.

Plans are also underway to introduce virtual nurses who can handle non-direct tasks like admissions and discharges. “Registered nurses spend 25 percent of their time each shift doing non-direct care activities… these are things virtual nurses could do remotely,” Hoppe explained.

The program is poised to generate new employment opportunities for Filipino healthcare professionals while easing the staffing challenges faced by US hospitals.
