Filipino singer from Cagayan de Oro earns four-chair turn in The Voice of Germany

Gian Carlos Navea, a 25-year-old singer from Cagayan de Oro City, impressed audiences during the Blind Auditions of The Voice of Germany 2024 with his rendition of “Watermelon Sugar,” earning a four-chair turn. He ultimately chose Yvonne Catterfeld as his coach.

Advancing through the competition, Navea showcased his vocal talent in the Teamfights with a powerful performance of “Way Down We Go,” defeating his contender, Elias. In the Battle Rounds, he paired with Gabriel, and both secured a spot in the semi-finals.

For the semi-finals, Navea delivered an emotional performance of “Leave The Light On.” Despite his impressive effort, he fell short of securing enough votes to reach the finals.

Navea, who previously competed in The Voice Teens Philippines in 2017 under Coach Bamboo, shared that he struggled to find his unique singing style during his time in the Philippines. “Here, I found my own style of singing,” he said. “A lot of people ended up liking it, and I think I was able to show that on The Voice of Germany.”

Now in his second year in Germany, Navea is focused on his career, performing with his own band and working as a model. Beyond his dream of becoming a successful performer, he aims to provide a better life for his family.

One of his proudest moments was using his first paycheck to buy a plane ticket for his mother, Rachel Galvez, so she could watch him live during the semi-finals. “When Gian sets his mind to something he’s passionate about, he gives it his all,” shared Galvez.

Navea expressed gratitude to his supporters, saying, “I hope you guys continue supporting me on my journey. Whatever happens, I hope you’re there with me. Thank you.”
