On August 23, 2025, the Filipino Nursing Diaspora (FiND) Network reached a new milestone with the successful convening of its inaugural National Roundtable Meeting for the United Kingdom. Held virtually, the meeting brought together Filipino nurses, leaders, and organizations from across the UK to engage in dialogue, strengthen solidarity, and identify shared priorities for the profession and community.
The session was facilitated by Dr. Jerome Babate, Executive Director of the FiND Network, who guided participants through a program designed to both inspire and strategize. Dr. Babate emphasized the significance of the moment, highlighting that the roundtable was not simply a gathering but a platform to elevate Filipino nurses’ collective contributions in the UK healthcare system.
Marlon Bernardo, the FiND Network’s Country Representative for the United Kingdom, delivered the opening remarks. In his message, he underscored the meeting’s two-fold purpose: “We are here to strengthen collaboration and solidarity among Filipino nurses and organizations in the UK, and to identify key priorities and opportunities to support our collective professional and advocacy efforts.” His words set the tone for an inclusive and forward-looking discussion that encouraged every participant to see themselves as stakeholders in the progress of Filipino nurses.
Among the highlights of the event was the participation of Ariel Lanada, President of the Filipino Nurses Association UK, who brought with him the perspective of one of the country’s most active Filipino nursing organizations. Lanada reminded attendees of the importance of unity in action: “Our strength as Filipino nurses lies not only in our skills and dedication but also in our ability to come together as one community. This roundtable is a testament to that unity and to our shared vision of making Filipino voices heard in healthcare leadership, advocacy, and policy-making.” His statement resonated with participants, reinforcing the idea that professional excellence must be matched by collective solidarity.
The discussions throughout the meeting centered on pressing issues faced by Filipino nurses in the UK.
Equally important were the conversations on how FiND can serve as a bridge—linking nurses across regions, institutions, and organizations into a more cohesive network. By fostering cross-collaboration, the roundtable laid the groundwork for initiatives that can address systemic challenges and amplify Filipino nurses’ visibility in decision-making spaces.
Closing the session, Irene Mayo, RN, MCSc., FiND’s Director for Engagement, delivered a heartfelt message that encapsulated the day’s spirit. “Today we have not just built connections, but strengthened our shared commitment to uplift Filipino nurses in the UK. Together, we carry the responsibility to advance our profession, empower our community, and make our voices heard. Let this be the beginning of ongoing conversations, meaningful actions, and a stronger, united presence for Filipino nurses in the UK.” Her words reflected the optimism and determination that characterized the meeting from start to finish.
For FiND Network, this inaugural UK National Roundtable was more than a one-time event—it was the beginning of a continuing journey to ensure that Filipino nurses in the UK are recognized, supported, and empowered to thrive. By creating a forum for dialogue and collaboration, the Network has opened new possibilities for partnership and leadership, both within the Filipino community and across the UK healthcare system.
The event also reaffirmed FiND’s broader mission: to unite Filipino nurses across the globe, harness their collective potential, and elevate their contributions in healthcare, education, research, and advocacy. With the UK chapter now laying a strong foundation, the FiND Network is set to amplify its role as a catalyst for global Filipino nursing leadership.
As the meeting drew to a close, there was a shared sense of pride and purpose. The inaugural roundtable had not only met its goals but also planted seeds for future collaboration. For Filipino nurses in the UK, August 23, 2025, will be remembered as the day their voices joined together under one banner of solidarity, leadership, and hope.
