For the first time, a Filipino mixed martial artist will compete in the Professional Fighters League (PFL) as Ruel “Bagsik” Panales steps into the SmartCage for his promotional debut. Panales is set to face Hadi Omar Al Hussaini of the UAE in a flyweight bout during the Road to Dubai Champions Series on January 25, 2025, at the Coca-Cola Arena in Dubai.
Panales, who trains at the DyIncredible Fighting and Fitness Center in Cavite, Philippines, boasts a 5-2 professional record, highlighted by four consecutive wins via stoppage. Despite his experience in Middle Eastern regional promotions like BRAVE CF, UAE Warriors, and RSF—where he captured the flyweight title—this marks his debut on the global stage.
Acknowledging the challenge of facing a hometown favorite, Panales expressed his readiness. “It’s a big challenge fighting on his home turf, but I’m prepared. I believe I’m more well-rounded, taller, and stronger,” he said in a Phil Star Global report, though he admitted adjusting to Dubai’s time zone might be his biggest hurdle.
Panales thanked his supporters and promised an unforgettable performance. “To all Filipino MMA fans, don’t miss our fight. I will prove how strong and talented Filipino fighters are,” he declared.
The Road to Dubai Champions Series begins at 7:30 p.m. on January 25, 2025, showcasing Panales’ historic entry into the prestigious PFL arena.
