A Filipino expatriate has reported losing his wallet at Dubai Mall, raising concerns that he may have been targeted by the same gang recently apprehended for pickpocketing in the area. OFW Aljon Buentiempo shared his experience after reading the news on The Global Filipino Magazine about the arrest of four gang members at the mall.
“I lost my wallet at Dubai Mall on Sunday afternoon. Inside the wallet were my Emirates ID and several ATM cards, which are crucial for my daily activities,” Buentiempo stated.
Buentiempo, who is based in Dubai for work, expressed his worries about the potential misuse of his identification and financial cards. The incident happened just days after Dubai police arrested four individuals from Azerbaijan and Tajikistan for orchestrating thefts at the mall.
The arrest of the gang was the result of an undercover operation by Dubai police following an increase in pickpocketing incidents. The gang was recently caught red-handed at the mall’s dancing fountain area, where they targeted a victim’s mobile phone.
He is appealing to anyone who might have found his wallet or has information about its whereabouts to contact him directly via Facebook Messenger.
