Filipino hailed as one of Italy’s best nurses after years of hard work

A Filipino nurse based in Italy has earned national recognition for his outstanding contributions to the field of nursing. Edi Cipres, 37, originally from Batangas and now residing in Padova, was honored with the Nursing Now Award by the National Confederation of Nursing Associations of Italy (CNAI).

The award was conferred during a ceremony held at the Italian Senate in Rome on July 11, marking a proud moment for the Filipino community in Italy. The Philippine Consulate General in Milan extended its heartfelt congratulations to Cipres, describing his achievement as a source of pride for all Filipinos.

Before becoming a registered nurse, Cipres faced a long and humble journey. He arrived in Italy in 2011 and initially worked as a caregiver. He also juggled jobs as a Zumba instructor, event organizer, and singer before pursuing his passion in healthcare.

Today, he serves as a nurse in the Emergency Room at Ospedale di Saronno and in the Reparto di Solvenza at ICCS Milano.

Beyond his hospital duties, Cipres actively advocates for the Filipino nursing community in Italy. With the support of the consulate, he plays a key role in organizing Filipino nurses through the Philippine Nurses Association of Italy, aiming to strengthen representation and support for Filipino healthcare workers.

Cipres also sits as a member of the Commission on Migrants in Padova, making him one of only three Filipinos holding elective positions in Northern Italy.
