The Filipino group L6 captivated the America’s Got Talent (AGT) stage with their rendition of Celine Dion’s “All By Myself,” earning a unanimous “yes” from the judges after a surprising intervention by Simon Cowell.
L6, composed of five siblings and their niece, revealed their emotional journey and dedication to fulfilling their late mother’s dream before starting their performance. As they began singing, the judges—Howie Mandel, Heidi Klum, and Sofia Vergara—were impressed by their vocals. However, Simon Cowell had a different perspective.
Cowell stopped their performance, much to the dismay of the audience, and shared his thoughts: “There are a lot of singing groups. I’m gonna do something, which I think is gonna help you. Lose the track… In my opinion, the track was terrible. And there aren’t that many great acapella groups, and I think you’ve got the potential to be a great acapella group.”
The crowd’s boos turned into cheers as L6 took Cowell’s advice and performed without the background music. Their acapella rendition stunned the audience and judges alike, leading to a tearful standing ovation.
“You could tell instantly, this is a great singing group. How you just took on everything without a track— you were more unique. It was more special. It was more memorable. And you just absolutely nailed that,” one of the judges praised.
The four judges eagerly voted “yes,” allowing L6 to advance to the live shows with a chance to win the $1 million prize. If victorious, the group plans to buy a “big, big house for the family,” as they are currently living in a small rental with four other adults and four children.
“We have ten siblings, and my sister has four children,” a group member shared. “Our dream is to buy a big house so we can be comfortable.”
