A Filipino expatriate in the UAE has struck it big, winning AED 1 million in The UAE Lottery. Beauregard Lim, a long-time UAE resident originally from Manila, is the second winner of the million-dirham prize since the lottery’s launch.
Lim, who has been living in the UAE since 2004, has worked in cargo and logistics to support his family in the Philippines. He discovered The UAE Lottery through social media and decided to give it a shot—never expecting that his life was about to change overnight.
“I was struggling financially and even considered asking my family for help,” Lim recalled. “That night, I had a dream of my mother smiling at me. The next morning, I checked my phone and saw a notification saying, ‘CONGRATULATIONS.’ I couldn’t believe it. My wife and I double-checked the numbers, and they were all there—it was real!”
The unexpected windfall brings financial relief, not just for Lim but for his entire family. He plans to invest in a business for his son, ensuring their long-term stability.
“This money gives me peace of mind,” he said. “For years, I carried so much stress, but now, that burden is gone.”
His first priority is to help his family, a promise he made to his mother. “Whenever my family needed help, I always said yes. But when my savings ran low, I had to start saying no, and it hurt. Now, I don’t have to say no anymore.”
Despite his big win, Lim remains a firm believer in responsible gaming. “If you have extra money, play. But always make sure your family’s needs come first. Life should always have balance.”
