Filipino designers forge ties with UAE industry leaders

In a significant step toward positioning Filipino design on the global stage, DMJ Ecospace held its inaugural flagship event—the VIP Premier Networking Dinner—in collaboration with the Philippine Business Council Dubai & Northern Emirates and the Philippine Trade and Investment Center (PTIC). The high-profile gathering brought together top decision-makers in the UAE’s B2B design and construction market, including developers, architects, consultants, procurement managers, interior designers, and contractors.

Held in Dubai, the exclusive event served as a platform for 10 standout Design Philippines companies to present their brands, showcase Filipino craftsmanship, and build valuable industry connections in the region. The featured companies included Arksmith, Aerostone, 51 All Weather Furniture, Red Slab Pottery, Prizmic & Brill, South Sea Veneer, Studio Moodism, Uratex, Mindanao Pearl, and Kit Silver.

A poignant moment of the evening came during a tribute to Mr. Wajih Nakkash, founder of Nakkash Gallery, who played a pivotal role in introducing Philippine-made furniture to the UAE market. His daughter, Ms. Aya Nakkash, now leads Nakkash Contracts, continuing the family legacy. Mr. Nakkash was honored for being instrumental in launching acclaimed Filipino brands such as Dedon, Kenneth Cobonpue, Ito Kish, and Vito Selma in the Middle East.

Ms. Marilou Lorenzo Joson, founder and managing director of DMJ Ecospace, gave an emotional speech acknowledging Mr. Nakkash as both a mentor and friend. Having worked with the Nakkash family for 19 years, she expressed deep gratitude and reflected on their shared vision of elevating design excellence.

Another key voice during the event was Mr. Randip Dhingra, founder of World Bazaar Luxury Outdoor, who provided actionable insights on sustaining a premium multi-brand showroom in Dubai, reinforcing the importance of long-term strategy and brand integrity.

The evening was graced by the presence of Consul General Marford Angeles, Vice Consul Aleah, PTIC Commissioner Vichael Roaring, and CITEM Head of Delegation Ms. Marjo Evio. Prominent Filipino curator Mr. Ito Kish also lent his support, while Ms. Natasha Carella and Ms. Bobby Carella extended a special invitation for Design Philippines to participate in Downtown Design 2025.

Over 30 companies participated in the event, including notable names such as Moma International Design, Godwin Austen Johnson, NEB, WA Interiors, XBD Collectives, The Parker Company, 1508 London, Monarca International, Play Middle East, and TAG 91.1. Their presence underscored the growing interest in and support for Filipino creativity in global markets.

The event’s success was made possible through the support of sponsors including Fabio Tex, LBC – Hari ng Padala, and ZG Group of Companies.

Marilou Lorenzo Joson, a distinguished graduate of PUP Sta. Mesa and a Ten Outstanding Marketing Student of the Philippines (TOMAS) awardee, is known for her unwavering dedication to promoting Filipino talent, integrity, and innovation in the luxury design space.
