Filipino community in Dubai gains practical lessons on security and protection

More than 150 overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) gathered at the Dubai Police Officer’s Club on Saturday, September 27, 2025, for a safety and awareness workshop organized by the Philippine Consulate General in Dubai in partnership with the Dubai Police.

The event formed part of Dubai Police’s Be the Link Initiative and Positive Spirit Initiative, both designed to promote stronger cooperation between residents and authorities, and to build safer, happier, and more informed communities.

Consul General Marford M. Angeles led the Philippine delegation, alongside officials from the Consulate, the Migrant Workers Office, and other attached agencies. High-ranking Dubai Police officials, including Brigadier Tariq Alsuwaidi and Brigadier Dr. Abdulrahman Sharaf Al Maamari, represented the host authorities.

Throughout the day, Dubai Police officers presented vital information covering hotline services for women and children, smart police applications, eCrimes and digital security, fraud prevention, drug crime measures, traffic safety, and the functions of Smart Police Stations. Participants were also introduced to “Dubai Police Eye,” a system that encourages residents to report crimes and suspicious activities.

The open forum that followed allowed Filipino attendees to ask questions and raise issues directly with Dubai Police experts. A central theme echoed during the exchange was the importance of reporting crimes without hesitation, highlighting that community protection is a shared responsibility.

In his message, Consul General Angeles expressed his gratitude to Dubai Police for their “invaluable partnership and support,” and commended the strong turnout of the Filipino community. He assured OFWs that the Consulate remains committed to working closely with authorities in helping realize the vision of Dubai as one of the safest cities in the world.

He also encouraged attendees to share the lessons they learned with their families, colleagues, and peers, emphasizing that knowledge is most powerful when passed forward.

The initiative was hailed as a success in bridging Filipinos and Dubai Police, equipping OFWs with practical tools to protect themselves and reinforcing their role as active partners in building a safe and cohesive society abroad.
