A 22-year-old chess prodigy from the Philippines has triumphed at the Think & Plan June 2024 – Classical Standard tournament held in Sharjah, UAE. Santiago German, the sole Filipino participant, outperformed 195 other competitors to secure first place.
Demonstrating remarkable skill and strategy, German achieved an impressive score of 6.5/7, maintaining an undefeated streak throughout the tournament. This victory boosts his standing in the International Chess Federation (FIDE) rankings and paves the way for further successes in future tournaments.
German is now gearing up for major competitions in the UAE and Europe. His next challenges include the 17th Poti International Chess Festival in Georgia and defending his title at the Asian Amateur Championship in Al Ain, Abu Dhabi, this December.
“It is an immense honor to represent my country in this prestigious tournament,” German said. “My parents always emphasize the importance of giving my all in these competitions, as I proudly wear the badge of the Philippines.” Santiago German is the youngest son of Dubai-based businessman Lito German and real estate executive Ditas German.
