Filipino basketball star Thirdy Ravena is set to embark on a new chapter in his career as he moves from Japan to the Dubai Basketball Club. The club announced his signing on Tuesday, confirming that Ravena has inked a one-year contract, with an option to extend for another season.
“We’re excited to see him shine on the court as he starts a new chapter of his journey in Dubai,” the club shared in an Instagram post.
Ravena, 27, is known for being a trailblazer among Filipino basketball players abroad. He spent the last four years with San-en NeoPhoenix in Japan’s Basketball League, becoming the first Filipino to play as a reinforcement in the league. During his tenure, he helped San-en achieve a 46-14 win-loss record in the elimination round, although they fell to the Hiroshima Dragonflies in the quarterfinals.
In Dubai, Ravena is expected to face strong competition as the club recently joined the ABA League in Europe, which includes teams from Montenegro, Serbia, Croatia, and Slovenia.
Ravena joins a roster of global talents at the Dubai Basketball Club, which has also signed Serbian players Aleksa Uskokovic and Danilo Andusic, as well as Slovenian standout Klemen Prepelic, who played in the 2023 FIBA World Cup alongside Luka Doncic.
