Apple has illuminated London’s iconic Battersea Power Station this Christmas with artworks from selected creatives, including London-based Filipino artist Kulay Labitigan, whose piece Optimistic Blossoms appears as part of the Your Tree on Battersea showcase.
The Your Tree on Battersea initiative is part of Apple’s annual celebration of festive creativity, hosted this year by British comedian Munya Chawawa. From 5:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. daily until 24 December, 24 selected submissions are projected onto Battersea Power Station alongside works by established artists and notable figures, including Kylie Minogue, Stephen Fry, Maro Itoje, Oliver Jeffers, and David Shrigley.
Labitigan’s Optimistic Blossoms is a festive digital illustration created on iPad that reinterprets the Christmas tree as a vibrant convergence of light and kaleidoscopic flora. The work reflects themes of diversity, hope, and shared humanity, drawing from Labitigan’s personal experience of migration and finding a sense of home in London.
“Optimistic Blossoms is a reminder that whatever season we maybe in and despite whatever division is happening in the world, there will always be a promise that hope even in the coldest of dark night will always blossom,” says Labitigan.
Born and raised in Tayabas, Quezon, and now based in London, Labitigan is a multidisciplinary visual artist whose work explores identity, belonging, and the idea of home. He holds a master’s degree from University of the Arts London (Central Saint Martins) and a Fine Arts degree from the University of the Philippines Diliman.
His inclusion in the Battersea projections places Filipino creativity within a global public art platform, contributing a distinctly personal and cultural perspective to one of London’s most visible holiday installations.
