Doha-based Filipino artist, Michael Conjusta, has achieved international acclaim as his unique costume named “Doha Skyline Day & Night” won ‘Best Costume-Category D’ at the ‘Princess of the Universe 2023’ event in London.
This victory follows its prior success at the 2022 Qatar International Art Festival (QIAF), where it clinched the Best Creative Fashion Outfit for Female.
Conjusta, primarily known for his portraits and murals throughout Qatar, collaborated with fellow Filipino fashion designer, Mon Sarmiento, to create the award-winning dress.
Modelled by Pham Arenas, the silk taffeta dress, embellished with acrylic paint and Swarovski crystals, represented a departure from Conjusta’s usual artistic mediums.
The Doha Skyline concept was chosen to showcase the beauty, strength, tradition, and modernization of Qatar through its iconic buildings and landmarks, reflecting Conjusta’s appreciation for the country he has called home for over 25 years.
“Qatar is my second home, and I want to promote this beautiful country,” Conjusta expressed in a The Peninsula Qatar report, elated by the unexpected international recognition.
The gown was loaned to Filipina contestant, Francesca Concepcion, competing in London, who brought pride to both the Philippines and Qatar by securing first runner-up and nine other awards.
Conjusta conveyed his pride and gratitude, “I am so happy that it now has a new ‘winner sash’ on it, and I am so proud of our lovely candidate, Francesca Concepcion.”
Conjusta revealed his upcoming participation at the Expo 2023 Doha, as the Qatar International Art Festival partners with the event.
Expressing excitement for the future, he invited attendees, “See you at the Doha Expo next week! We are excited about what we can offer all exhibitors and visitors.”
