Filipino artist in Dubai to showcase indigenous portraits at Consulate exhibit

The Philippine Consulate General in Dubai will open the 10th edition of its Museo sa Konsulado series on October 3, 2025, as part of the Labindalawa campaign. The exhibit, titled Mukha ng Kultura, features works by architect-artist Larry Merciales and marks the Consulate’s observance of National Indigenous Peoples Month.

Backed by the United Architects of the Philippines–Singapore Chapter, the show will present Merciales’ pen-and-acrylic portraits that highlight the dignity, resilience and living traditions of indigenous Filipino communities. The exhibit is scheduled to open at 2:30 p.m. at the Consulate.

Consul General Marford M. Angeles said, “The Labindalawa campaign is our collective expression of freedom in its many forms. Through this 10th installment of Museo sa Konsulado, we honor the heritage and identity of our indigenous communities. Larry Merciales’ works remind us that their resilience and culture are essential to the Filipino story, and that these must be cherished and celebrated wherever Filipinos may be.”

Merciales, the youngest of twelve siblings from Metro Manila, trained in architecture at the Polytechnic University of the Philippines. He has worked in China and Singapore and is currently based in Dubai as a project architect and part-time professor. His artworks have been exhibited by the National Commission for Culture and the Arts in Manila, at the Cartoon Art Gallery in Dubai, and in Chengdu, China.

Mukha ng Kultura aims to offer viewers fresh perspectives on indigenous heritage through striking portraits that invite reflection on the diversity and depth of Filipino cultural identity.
