Filipino artist and architect to display Philippine and global landmarks in Dubai exhibition

In celebration of the 126th Philippine Independence Day, the Filipino community in Dubai is set to experience a unique artistic journey through “Circa: A Trip Down Memory Lane,” a solo art exhibition by acclaimed Filipino artist and architect Edcel La Rosa Cabalan. The event will be held on June 8, 2024, at Za’abeel Hall 3, World Trade Center, Dubai.

Cabalan, a Visual Arts Awardee for Ani ng Dangal 2022 by the National Commission for Culture and the Arts, presents his fourth solo exhibition, promising an enchanting exploration of Philippine heritage and iconic global landmarks. The exhibition features a collection of intricately detailed masterpieces, rendered in vibrant watercolors that bring to life architectural wonders from the Spanish era in the Philippines and other famed structures worldwide.

Visitors will be transported back in time with paintings that capture the imposing fortresses of Intramuros and the elegant streetscapes of old Manila, each piece a testament to the enduring legacy of Philippine history and culture. Cabalan’s profound understanding of architectural design and his meticulous brushwork make these historic structures come alive, allowing the audience to immerse themselves in the beauty of a bygone era.

The exhibition also transcends local borders to include depictions of global marvels such as the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque in Abu Dhabi and the timeless canals of Venice. Each work offers a fresh perspective on these architectural masterpieces, crafted through Cabalan’s masterful use of watercolor.

“For this exhibition, ‘Circa’ represents a fusion of my passions for art and architecture, highlighting the beauty and diversity of the built environment,” says Cabalan. “This visual odyssey is an invitation to rediscover the wonders of our world, bridging the gap between past and present, and inspiring a renewed appreciation for creativity.”
