Filipina who served royal family for 40 years receives recognition from DMW

The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) has paid tribute to 74-year-old Aurora R. Regner, a domestic worker who spent 39 years in Muscat, Oman, serving the cousin of a royal family member.

Ms. Regner, who returned home due to a heart condition, was welcomed at the DMW office on June 5, 2025, where she received a warm reception from Secretary Hans Leo J. Cacdac and other senior officials. Her decades of service abroad stood as a symbol of the strength and devotion of Filipino migrant workers.

“Ang dedikasyon ni Ms. Regner ay tunay na kahanga-hanga. Ang kagaya niya ay hindi lang dapat pahalagahan, kundi dapat paglingkuran din,” said Secretary Cacdac, reaffirming the agency’s commitment to assisting returning OFWs—especially senior citizens—under the directive of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.

Ms. Regner is set to undergo medical tests at the OFW Hospital in Pampanga on Monday. All her transportation and healthcare needs will be covered by the government.

She began her overseas journey in 1985. In 1996, she battled tuberculosis but remained in Oman after her employer took care of her hospitalization and recovery. Her loyalty earned the trust and admiration of her employers, one of whom helped five of her nieces find work in Muscat. Despite pressure to convert to Islam, Ms. Regner remained steadfast in her Christian faith.

Now back in the Philippines, Ms. Regner described her meeting with Secretary Cacdac as a “once-in-a-lifetime experience,” one she carefully noted in her diary—a quiet but powerful reminder of her decades of sacrifice and strength.
