Filipina OFW in Riyadh reunited with family through DICT’s free video call initiative

Hazel Luna Atta, a 37-year-old OFW and mother of three, could hardly hold back her emotions as she reconnected with her loved ones back home in Cagayan de Oro through a free video call offered by the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) at the Migrant Workers Office in Riyadh.

Clutching her youngest child, Hazel spoke to her aunt during the Bagong Bayani ng Mundo: OFW Serbisyo Caravan on July 18. She is currently staying at Bahay Kalinga 2 after leaving her job as a cleaner, which she held for seven years. For the past eight months, she has been seeking assistance while living in the shelter with two of her children.

“Nakausap ko po ang pamilya ko dahil sa tulong ng DICT, MWO Riyadh… masaya po ako at nakita ko po sila at nalaman din po nila na pauwi na kami dahil po sa tulong ng proyekto ng DICT,” Hazel said, expressing her gratitude. She encouraged fellow OFWs to approach nearby MWO offices for help, saying, “Nandiyan lang sila tutulong.”

Hazel was one of ten OFWs who were able to avail of the free unlimited video call during the event, thanks to the DICT’s Free Wi-Fi Inter-Connectivity Program in partnership with the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW).
