A Sagay City mother has demonstrated that it’s never too late to pursue higher education, earning top honors despite life’s challenges.
Riva Requiron-Williams, 36, graduated summa cum laude and received a Chancellor’s Award from Northshore Technical Community College in Louisiana, USA, on May 24. Growing up in Barangay Vito, Negros Occidental, Riva completed an Associate of Applied Science in Information System Technology.
Her journey to academic success was not easy. After finishing high school at 16, Riva had to put her college dreams on hold to support her family, especially to cover the medical expenses of her ailing brother. Her brother, Mark Dave Requiron, explained the delay in her education, stating, “It took her years before finally taking the leap and enrolling due to our financial struggles.”
Despite these challenges, Riva remained determined. Balancing her studies with raising two children, she never lost sight of her goal. “Perhaps, time was never in her favor,” Mark Dave added, reflecting on her perseverance through difficult times.
With unwavering commitment and patience, Riva finally achieved her long-awaited dream of earning a college degree, proving that dedication can overcome even the most daunting obstacles.
