Filipina domestic worker in Hong Kong ranks Top 2 in teachers’ licensure exam held in Taiwan

Despite working full-time as a domestic helper in Hong Kong for over a decade, 38-year-old Maria Adoracion R. Octavio has achieved what many only dream of — placing Top 2 in the Licensure Examination for Teachers (LET) – Secondary Level, held in Taiwan on June 8.

Juggling household duties and her studies, Octavio showed remarkable perseverance. While cooking, cleaning, and caring for others, she made use of every spare moment to study — often listening to recorded lectures during work and reviewing at night, no matter how exhausted she was.

“It wasn’t easy… While working, I’m listening to recorded video lessons and drills, while at nighttime, I try to study even if I’m already falling asleep from fatigue,” she shared.

Octavio earned an impressive 89.20% average score, a feat not just for herself but for every Overseas Filipino Worker who continues to dream beyond borders.
