Maria Lacerda, a Filipina mother and cleaner, has been honored with the prestigious Emirates Labour Market Award by the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MOHRE) for her exceptional dedication to work. This recognition comes with a substantial reward of AED 100,000.
Lacerda’s journey in the United Arab Emirates spans an impressive 22 years. Originally from the Philippines, she moved to the UAE in 2022. Her career began in a local family’s home, followed by a stint with a cleaning company, and finally in her current position. What sets Lacerda apart is not just her unwavering dedication to her work but also her creative flair. In her free time, she crafts beautiful newspaper decorations, mobile stands, and glass holders, which she generously gifts to her colleagues.
In a video released by MOHRE, an emotional Lacerda shares her story and disbelief at receiving such an honor. “I am happy because, as a cleaner, I had to seize other opportunities to receive an award. When HR told me, I didn’t believe it. I called my family first,” she says.
The Emirates Labour Market Award is given to individuals who have made exceptional contributions to the labor market. Maria Lacerda’s story is a testament to the fact that hard work, dedication, and creativity can be recognized in even the most unexpected of roles. Her joy and surprise upon receiving the award, as seen in the video, highlight the impact of this achievement on her life.
