A Filipina marriage migrant, Marvil Facturan, was allegedly killed by her husband, Mitja Kocjancic, during a vacation in Bled, Slovenia, on December 29, drawing widespread condemnation and demands for justice.
The Commission on Filipinos Overseas (CFO) confirmed the incident in a statement, expressing their support for Facturan’s family. “We stand in solidarity with them, condemning acts of domestic violence, seeking justice for our kababayan, and honoring the beautiful life she lived,” the CFO said.
Senator Imee Marcos also denounced the crime, describing it as an alleged act of domestic violence that took place just a week after Facturan arrived in Slovenia. She called on Philippine authorities to ensure accountability.
“Walang puwang ang domestic violence sa isang maayos at makataong lipunan. Hindi dapat palagpasin ng Pilipinas ang anumang uri ng ganitong karahasan, dito man o sa ibang bansa,” Marcos stated.
The senator urged the Department of Foreign Affairs, the CFO, and other agencies to take swift action to secure justice for Facturan.
