Fil-Am journalist secures spot on Golden Globe Awards Advisory Board in recent election

Veteran Hollywood journalist Janet R. Nepales has been elected to the Golden Globe Awards (GGA) Advisory Board, alongside her colleagues Ramzy Malouki and Asel Sherniyazova. The trio secured their positions in a recent vote among GGA members to fill the three open spots on the board, Inquirer.net reported.

Nepales, an award-winning journalist, has made history as the first Filipina voting member of the Golden Globe Awards. A member since 2008, she has served in multiple roles within the organization. Based in Los Angeles, she is also a columnist for GMA-7 and an accomplished author.

In addition to her work with the Golden Globes, Nepales holds leadership roles in several film festivals, including the Soho International Film Festival and the Manila International Film Festival.

Her long list of accolades includes the President’s Lifetime Achievement Award in Journalism, presented to her by President Joe Biden at The Outstanding Filipinos in America (TOFA) Awards in 2022. Nepales has been recognized multiple times by the Los Angeles Press Club and was named Journalist of the Year by the Filipino American Press Club of California in 2022.

She is married to fellow journalist Ruben V. Nepales, with whom she shares two daughters.
