A father is set to face charges of murder and two counts of parricide after brutally hacking to death his live-in partner and two of their three children in City of Naga, Cebu.
The suspect, identified as 33-year-old Carlo Camporedondo, remains under hospital arrest after being shot in the knee by police during his capture in Barangay Cogon, about 4.4 kilometers from the crime scene. Authorities said he resisted arrest and attempted to attack an officer with the same bolo he used in the killings.
According to a GMA Regional TV report, the gruesome crime occurred on the morning of January 27, 2025, in Sitio Kamanggahan, Barangay Lutac, while the victims—32-year-old Junelyn Gimenez and their children, aged 11 and two—were having breakfast. Police reports state that the victims suffered fatal wounds to the nape and neck, causing their heads to be severed.
Camporedondo allegedly also tried to attack the children’s grandmother, but she managed to escape and seek refuge at a neighbor’s house. Before fleeing, the suspect reportedly told the children’s grandfather that the victims were already dead.
Authorities suspect three possible motives: Camporedondo’s alleged drug use, online gambling habits, and jealousy. While some individuals familiar with him claim he had mental health issues, police are proceeding with the filing of charges.
The case was initially set to be filed on January 29, 2025, but due to the Chinese New Year holiday, it is expected to be moved to January 30. Meanwhile, the couple’s surviving seven-year-old child, who was at school during the attack, is now in the custody of the City Social Welfare and Development Office for counseling.
