A father and son from Sto. Nino, Cagayan, are suspected of being infected with human anthrax after consuming meat from a dead carabao.
According to a report by GMA Regional TV One North Central Luzon, the two were among eight individuals who slaughtered and ate the carabao, which was found already dead. The father, 53, and the son, 25, were taken to Cagayan Valley Medical Center after experiencing symptoms such as fever, chills, body weakness, and black sores.
The son first showed symptoms on October 8, followed by the father on October 11. Both are reportedly recovering, and their specimens have been sent to the Research Institute for Tropical Medicine (RITM) for testing and confirmation.
The Cagayan Provincial Health Office is closely monitoring the situation to prevent a possible spread of the infection.
