Dubai Police have taken swift action against individuals involved in the violent incidents that erupted following the UAE Pro League match between Al Wasl and Shabab Al Ahli football clubs. The arrests were confirmed by His Excellency Major General Abdullah Ali Al Ghaithi, Assistant Commander-in-Chief for Operations Affairs at Dubai Police.
According to Al Ghaithi, the police immediately launched an investigation after the match, using surveillance footage and video analysis to identify the individuals responsible for the disturbances. Those apprehended have been referred to the relevant authorities for further legal proceedings.
“Legal action has been taken against the individuals involved, and they have been referred to the competent authorities for further proceedings,” Al Ghaithi emphasized.
He further highlighted the importance of maintaining public safety and ensuring that sporting events remain a platform for enjoyment and healthy competition, urging fans to avoid fanaticism and disruptive behavior. “Stadiums must remain spaces of camaraderie and joy, not arenas of conflict and aggression,” he stated.
In a related move, the UAE Football Association’s Disciplinary Committee imposed sanctions on the clubs involved. Shabab Al Ahli Club was fined AED 70,000 due to fans verbally abusing opponents and throwing water bottles on the pitch. Meanwhile, Al Wasl Club was fined AED 80,000 for fans igniting a smoke flare, chanting offensive slogans, and throwing objects toward other spectators.
