Families of EJK victims hail Duterte’s arrest, demand full accountability

Families of victims of extrajudicial killings (EJKs) expressed relief and hope following the arrest of former President Rodrigo Duterte, calling it a long-overdue step toward justice. The warrant, issued by the International Criminal Court (ICC), holds Duterte accountable for alleged crimes against humanity committed during his administration’s war on drugs.

The group Rise Up For Life and For Rights, composed of EJK victims’ families, welcomed the news with emotional reactions. Nay Llore Pasco, one of the group’s members, described the arrest as a long-awaited moment for those seeking justice.

“Matagal na nating hinihintay at lubos ang ating pag-asa na sana totoo na nga itong mga balita. Panahon na upang gampanan ni Marcos ang kanyang obligasyon na panagutin si Duterte,” Pasco stated. She urged the current administration to ensure that Duterte faces the consequences of his actions.

Another member, Nanay Dahlia Cuartero, shared her overwhelming emotions upon hearing the news. “Walang katumbas ang saya ang naramdaman ko ngayon, kasabay ng pagluha dahil sa saya sa pag-aresto kay Duterte,” she said.
