Fake maid robs Chinese national in Philippines of P5 million in valuables

A Chinese national residing in the Philippines has reportedly lost approximately P5 million worth of cash and belongings, including two pet cats, after hiring a house helper who turned out to be a scammer.

According to a 24 Oras news report, citing the authorities, the 30-year-old suspect was hired by the victim on February 12. Initially appearing trustworthy and hardworking, the helper gained the victim’s confidence quickly. However, within just two days, she vanished along with the victim’s vault, two vehicles, and two pet cats.

Police Colonel Marlon Guimno of the NCR Criminal Investigation and Detection Group said the suspect, who already had an outstanding warrant for her arrest, had targeted mainly Chinese nationals by speaking fluent Mandarin. She is also accused of defrauding Filipino victims.

Authorities arrested the suspect over a week later at her partner’s home in a subdivision in Cainta, Rizal. Investigators believe gambling debts motivated her crimes. The suspect reportedly accumulated around P20 million from multiple victims using various aliases.

Officials encourage other victims to come forward and file complaints. The suspect declined to provide any statements to authorities.
