Her post on the Facebook group Hong Kong and Macau Travel Updates and Promo has garnered nearly 7,000 reactions and 1,700 shares, sparking conversation about interactions with Immigration Officers (IOs).
Garcia, who traveled with her mother, detailed her thorough preparation, sharing, “Eto ang mga documents na naka prep para samin ng mom ko… insurance, bank, BIR, birth certificate, IDs, DTI permit, hotel, itinerary, boarding pass, and boarding ticket.”
Despite her diligence, she reported a swift interaction with a male IO in the Philippines: “Good morning, Kailan balik mo at Sino kasama mo?”
Highlighting the variability of experiences with IOs, Garcia advised, “Para saakin as early as possible na nasa airport na kayo, mag pa immig na kayo.”
She also emphasized the convenience of having printed documents, especially when accompanied by elders, to expedite the process.
Comments on Garcia’s post reflected diverse traveler experiences.
One user shared, “Ang kapal ng documents kasi may bank statement and COE, ang OA daw sabi nung immigration. hahaha parang nbwisit pa sya sa dami kong dala.”
Another chimed in with advice for first-time travelers, “Strict lng ang mga IO sa mga 1st timer lumbas ng bansa tas single.”
A seasoned traveler provided insight into the dynamics between travelers and IOs, stating, “If one is a legit traveller, printing everything to be sure empowers those who abuses their IO posts. It also diminishes your confidence as a legit traveller.” This user encouraged travelers to assert their rights and travel confidently, highlighting the security that complete documents provide.
Garcia’s post has ignited a vital dialogue about the varied experiences at immigration, underscoring the significance of being well-prepared and knowledgeable about travelers’ rights.
