Expo City Dubai to temporarily close 6 pavilions and attractions

Expo City Dubai, the iconic venue that hosted Expo 2020 Dubai, has announced the temporary closure of six of its popular pavilions and attractions in preparation for the upcoming COP28 event. These closures are set to last for 12 days, from November 18 to November 29.

The affected pavilions and attractions include Terra, Alif, Vision, Women’s Pavilion, Stories of Nations, and Latifa’s Adventures. A spokesperson from Expo City confirmed this decision to Khaleej Times on Tuesday.

Expo City Dubai is gearing up to host the 28th meeting of the Conference of the Parties of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), known as COP28. This pivotal event is scheduled to take place from November 30 to December 12.

COP28 UAE holds great significance as it is expected to yield a comprehensive assessment of global progress since the adoption of the Paris Agreement in 2016. Moreover, it will outline the measures required to bridge the gaps in achieving the goal of limiting the rise in mean global temperature to 1.5°C to significantly mitigate the effects of climate change.

The pavilions and attractions being temporarily closed have been instrumental in promoting sustainability, mobility, and women’s contributions to a better world. For instance:

  • Terra (Sustainability Pavilion): Offers an immersive journey through the forest’s roots and the ocean’s depths, educating visitors about the environmental impact of human choices and providing skills to protect and preserve the planet.
  • Alif (Mobility Pavilion): Showcases the history of human mobility, from the Arab Civilization to the UAE’s pioneering Emirates Mars Mission. It also explores how artificial intelligence will transform cities and interactions.
  • Women’s Pavilion: Highlights women’s significant roles in history and their contributions to creating a better world.
  • Stories of Nations Exhibitions: Features over 80 original items from Expo 2020 Dubai’s international participants, focusing on themes like opportunity, sustainability, and mobility.
  • Latifa’s Adventures: A popular playground for children where they can enjoy activities such as bouncing over nets in a ‘zero-gravity’ chamber, swinging into orbit, and exploring a replica of the UAE’s Hope Probe.

Expo City Dubai’s decision to temporarily close these pavilions and attractions reflects the commitment to ensuring a successful COP28 event, where world leaders will gather to address critical climate change issues.
