A European woman has been convicted of theft after stealing a gold necklace from a retail store in Dubai, Gulf Today reported. The Dubai Misdemeanour and Violations Court ordered her to pay a fine of AED 5,000 and compensate the shop with AED 10,000 for the stolen item.
The incident occurred last March when a vendor noticed that a gold necklace had gone missing shortly after the woman left the store. Upon reviewing surveillance footage, the vendor discovered that the customer had discreetly placed the jewelry in her bag before walking out. The store manager was immediately alerted, and the case was reported to police.
Investigators tracked down the suspect by identifying her vehicle and later arrested her. During questioning, the woman admitted to taking the necklace but claimed she did so unintentionally, saying she was distraught after learning about her sister’s death while inside the store.
Despite her explanation, the court dismissed the claim of lack of intent, ruling that CCTV evidence clearly showed deliberate theft. The woman was found guilty and penalized accordingly.
