Etihad Rail’s new passenger station to be built in Fujairah’s Sakamkam area

A senior Etihad Rail official confirmed on Tuesday that a new passenger station will be constructed in Fujairah’s Sakamkam area. This announcement was made at the first Global Rail conference held in Abu Dhabi.

“We are connecting 11 cities and regions,” said Adhraa Almansoori, Director of Public Policy and Sustainability at Etihad Rail, in a Khaleej Times report. She revealed that the second station will be located in Sharjah’s University City. The passenger network will share infrastructure with the existing freight network, with trains expected to run at a maximum speed of 200 km/h.

While details on the start of passenger services remain undisclosed, Almansoori noted that discussions with manufacturers are ongoing to ensure sustainability and resilience. By 2030, the network aims to transport 36 million passengers.

The 900-kilometer-long rail system will connect all seven emirates and extend to Oman, with a joint venture named Hafit Rail facilitating cross-border connections to Sohar Port.
