Senator Jinggoy Estrada will file a perjury complaint against a former Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) official who accused him of being linked to irregular flood control projects.
Estrada’s office confirmed that the senator is set to file the case against former Bulacan 1st District assistant district engineer Brice Hernandez at the Quezon City Office of the City Prosecutor on Tuesday, October 7.
The move comes after Hernandez alleged during a House Committee on Infrastructure hearing in September that Estrada was behind ₱355 million worth of questionable infrastructure projects in Bulacan.
Estrada has strongly denied the accusations. “Yes, sa sampahan ko ng kaso yan. I have to talk to my lawyers,” he earlier said. He also lashed out at Hernandez, calling him a liar. “Napakasinungaling nitong taong ‘to. Because first of all, hinding hindi ko siya kilala, and I have never met that guy,” the senator said.
Hernandez, who has since turned over data from his computer to the Department of Justice (DOJ), is under “provisional acceptance” in the Witness Protection Program. He clarified that the documents contained names of lawmakers—but not senators—allegedly tied to anomalous flood control deals.
Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla earlier said that around 200 individuals nationwide are being investigated for alleged involvement in the questionable projects.
