Escudero declines to comment on impeachment rumors against VP Duterte

Senate President Chiz Escudero has chosen not to weigh in on speculation that the House of Representatives will soon forward the impeachment complaints against Vice President Sara Duterte to the Senate before Congress adjourns its session.

“I won’t comment on speculation. If it reaches us, then I’ll comment. But for now, there’s nothing for us to discuss,” Escudero was quoted as saying by Inquirer.net report.

When asked if there is a possibility that the complaints could be transmitted before the adjournment, Escudero remained noncommittal, emphasizing that it is the prerogative of the House of Representatives.

“It’s not for me to guess. That is within their power. Our authority only comes in once it is officially filed with us,” he explained.

He also confirmed that there has been no prior communication between the House and the Senate regarding the matter. As of now, the Senate has not made any preparations for a possible impeachment trial, with Escudero stating there is no need for early preparations.

“There’s a process we have to go through, which takes about two to three weeks. So there will be enough time once it is filed,” he said.

Currently, three impeachment complaints have been lodged against the Vice President in the lower chamber.
