Chief Presidential Legal Counsel Juan Ponce Enrile remains alive but in critical condition, his family confirmed on Tuesday night.
Columnist Ramon Tulfo shared in a Facebook post that, according to Enrile’s son Jack, the former Senate president was “still fighting for his life” as of 9 p.m. while confined in an undisclosed hospital. Tulfo quoted Jack as saying that “his father may go anytime soon.”
Enrile, whose government records list his birthdate as February 14, 1924, is officially 101 years old. However, baptismal records from the Iglesia Filipina Independiente in Cagayan—where he was christened Juanito Furagganan—indicate that he was born on June 22, 1922, making him 103.
The Inquirer earlier reported that Enrile converted to Roman Catholicism when he was 20 years old.
Senator Jinggoy Estrada previously told colleagues that Enrile was admitted to an intensive care unit due to pneumonia. A source close to the family said he has “slim chances of surviving.”
