Empowering lives: Filipina climbs from receptionist to fitness sector manager in Dubai

In a world where the diaspora of talents across the globe becomes a norm, stories of determination, hard work, and success serve as beacons of inspiration for many. One such narrative is that of Maizzy Pamintuan Maniago-Vergara, a 30-year-old Fitness Sector Manager at Fit Social LLC, who has spent nine years carving a niche for herself in the UAE. Her story is not just about climbing the corporate ladder; it’s about the relentless pursuit of dreams against all odds.

Starting her overseas career in 2015, Maizzy was directly hired by an international fitness brand in the UAE as a receptionist. Her journey from this entry-level position to becoming a Lifestyle Specialist in just two months is a striking example of her drive and determination.

“My dedication and enthusiasm caught the attention of my superiors, leading me to quickly climb the corporate ladder in the fitness industry,” she recounts with The Global Filipino Magazine.

Her professional growth saw her excelling in various positions, ultimately leading her to manage the entire fitness sector in a premium facility, Fit Social Ladies Club.

The motivation behind Maizzy’s decision to work abroad is deeply personal. Driven by a desire to provide for her mother and to save enough to open a gym in her hometown, she embarked on this journey. Her previous roles, from managing a family business to operating a small clothing store in the Philippines, laid a strong foundation for her success abroad.

She notes, “Achieving over an 80% return on my investment underscores my proficiency with numbers,” highlighting her business acumen.

Maizzy finds immense satisfaction in her current role, where she gets to train and encourage individuals to embrace a healthier lifestyle.

“The most satisfying thing about my work is witnessing the growth and success of the individuals I’ve managed in their careers,” she shares. Her passion for fitness and her commitment to helping others achieve their health goals are palpable in her words.

The challenges of adjusting to a new country, particularly dealing with homesickness and navigating a multicultural workplace, were significant for Maizzy. However, she overcame these obstacles through dedication and the support of her mentors and family.

“I devoted myself to daily self-study of the company’s processes…Gratitude is owed to my mentors and my aunt and cousins who introduced me to the UAE, fostering a greater sense of belonging,” she reflects.

Looking ahead, Maizzy is not just content with personal success; she aspires to give back to the community. She has plans to launch her own business consulting company, The Pearl “Guiding Growth Strategies,” specializing in the fitness and wellness sector.

“The Pearl is not just another consulting firm; it is a beacon of expertise and innovation in the industry,” Maizzy states, outlining her vision for offering comprehensive services to support business growth in the fitness sector.

For those striving to make their mark abroad, Maizzy offers invaluable advice.

“Cultivate a strong sense of purpose,” she suggests, emphasizing the importance of reconnecting with one’s motivations to overcome challenges.

She encourages her fellow Filipinos to give their best effort and help others, assuring that divine intervention will complement their endeavors.
