Emirates, the world’s largest international carrier, has announced potential Wi-Fi and mobile connectivity interruptions on some of its flights, including the A380, due to satellite issues beyond its control.
In a statement released on its website, the Dubai-based airline apologized for the inconvenience and assured passengers they are working towards resolving the issue promptly.
“Due to a satellite issue outside of our control, our customer Wi-Fi and mobile service may not be available on some of our A380 flights. We’re sorry for this inconvenience and hope to be back online again soon,” said the airline.
The news comes after Emirates introduced complimentary connectivity for passengers in every class of travel who sign up to Emirates Skywards.
This development led to an additional 30,000 Economy Class passengers utilizing the free onboard Wi-Fi every week and a 30 per cent increase in passenger use in 2023 compared to the same period in the previous year, averaging 450,000 users per month.
Despite the current interruptions, Emirates remains committed to providing connectivity solutions to its passengers.
The airline has invested over Dh1.1 billion ($300 million) into onboard connectivity to date. Passengers also have the option to purchase Wi-Fi plans during their flight, with prices ranging from $2.99 to $19.99, depending on the package and the length of the flight.
