Former Love Island contestant Jack Fowler experienced a severe allergic reaction after consuming a meal containing nuts on an Emirates flight, despite being reassured by the cabin crew that the dish was nut-free. Fowler, who has a life-threatening nut allergy, reported that he was served a “Creamy Cashew Nut Chicken Curry” and began to experience breathing difficulties soon after.
“I trusted my flight attendant’s assurance that the meal was safe. But immediately after starting the meal, my throat closed up making it extremely difficult to breathe,” Fowler detailed in a distressing account shared on Instagram. He had to use his EpiPen and was provided with five oxygen tanks to stabilize his condition until the plane landed in Dubai, where he was rushed to the hospital.
Responding to the incident, an Emirates spokesperson expressed regret over Fowler’s ordeal, stating, “We are sorry to hear of Mr. Fowler’s experience and our teams on the ground are providing him with all possible assistance.” They emphasized that while Emirates strives to accommodate passengers with special dietary needs, a completely nut-free environment cannot be guaranteed. The airline encourages travelers with severe allergies to consult their doctor before flying and to notify flight attendants about their conditions.
This is not the first time Fowler has faced such a situation on a flight, bringing attention to the challenges passengers with severe allergies face while traveling.
