A 70-year-old man lost his life after being attacked and gored by a carabao on Friday afternoon, February 7, 2025, in Barangay Dapdap, Pilar town.
The victim, identified as Samuel Contridas, was gathering firewood in a mountainous area when the carabao suddenly turned aggressive and charged at him. According to Police Master Sergeant Julius Navarro of the Pilar Police Station, the animal’s horn pierced the elderly man’s stomach, leading to his death.
Contridas’ relatives discovered his body at around 4:50 p.m. The carabao, which belonged to a neighbor, had been tied to a tree but managed to break free after pulling forcefully on its rope, causing the branch to snap.
The victim’s family has accepted his passing and has chosen not to pursue legal action. Meanwhile, the carabao’s owner has pledged to assist with funeral expenses.
Authorities have since returned the carabao to its owner.
