An elderly couple was found dead in their home in a village in Masbate, reportedly after accidentally drinking a coffee-like mixture that turned out to be rat poison.
According to a Bandera report, authorities said the lifeless bodies of the 80-year-old husband and his 79-year-old wife were discovered over a day after their deaths. Their child made the grim discovery and alerted the police.
Initial investigation revealed that the wife was found lying on their bed, while the husband was seated at their dining table. Investigators believe the couple may have unknowingly mixed and consumed the poisonous substance, mistaking it for coffee.
Police ruled out foul play after finding a container of rat poison placed next to the coffee jar in the kitchen. Forensic tests later confirmed traces of the poison in the beverage the couple had consumed.
