Dubai Police, in collaboration with the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), embarked on a campaign to educate cyclists and e-scooter riders about traffic regulations. Authorities patrolled the emirate, handing out safety gear such as helmets and reflective belts, while also reminding riders of the speed limits in different areas.
The campaign, aimed at spreading traffic awareness and reducing accidents, emphasized the importance of adhering to speed limits, which are set at 20 kmph in residential and beach areas and 30 kmph on Meydan Street and shared streets. There are no speed restrictions on Seih Al Salam and Al Qudra tracks.
Riders who endanger their own or others’ lives face fines up to Dh300. Additionally, riding without a permit attracts a Dh200 penalty, and failing to comply with speed limits can result in fines ranging from Dh100 to Dh300.
Maj-Gen Saif Muhair Al Mazrouei, director of the General Department of Traffic, stressed the need for all road users, including drivers, passengers, cyclists, and pedestrians, to understand and fulfill their responsibilities for achieving high safety levels.
The campaign specifically targeted areas developed by Emaar and Nakheel, focusing on cyclists and e-scooter riders in these residential zones.
Maj-Gen Al Mazrouei highlighted the concerted efforts of all relevant entities in Dubai to ensure road safety through extensive traffic awareness campaigns, aiming to reduce traffic violations and accidents.
