Dubai’s iconic Deira Clock Tower has earned a spot among the world’s most beautiful clock towers, as recognized by The Telegraph (UK), marking a proud moment for the UAE’s architectural heritage.
Sheikha Latifa bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairperson of Dubai Culture and Arts Authority, announced the recognition on X, where she shared a celebratory video highlighting the landmark’s significance. “The Deira Clock Tower stood as Dubai’s first iconic landmark in the early 1960s and marked the city’s first land connection between Deira and Bur Dubai,” Sheikha Latifa stated.
The tower, originally built in 1963 and renovated in 1972, holds the 17th spot on the prestigious list, becoming a symbol of the city’s transformation from a modest trading port to a global metropolis. Over the decades, the Deira Clock Tower has witnessed the city’s rapid evolution, maintaining its place in the hearts of residents and visitors alike.
In 2023, Dubai Municipality revitalized the surrounding area with a Dh10 million upgrade. The project introduced a modern water fountain, lush greenery, and enhanced pedestrian spaces, merging contemporary elements with the landmark’s heritage character.
