Dubai’s bus network now covers nearly 90% of the city, serving 188 million passengers in 2024

Dubai’s public bus network has reached a new milestone, now covering 88% of the city’s urban areas and serving 188 million passengers in 2024, an 8% increase from the previous year, according to the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA).

Mattar Al Tayer, Director General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of the RTA, emphasized the agency’s commitment to making public transport a preferred option for residents and visitors. “Our goal is to strengthen connections between residential, commercial, and industrial zones while ensuring seamless integration with the Dubai Metro, tram, and taxi networks,” Al Tayer said.

Currently, Dubai’s public bus system operates a fleet of 1,390 buses across 187 routes, completing 11,000 trips daily and covering approximately 333,000 kilometers. The network serves over 500,000 riders each day.

The RTA continues to enhance its services, introducing six new dedicated bus and taxi lanes spanning 13 kilometers, which are expected to boost ridership by 10%, improve bus arrival times by 42%, and reduce journey durations by 41%. These new lanes will bring the total length of dedicated routes to 20 kilometers.

The authority has also introduced nine express bus routes, nine additional metro link services, and four new taxi routes in 2024, targeting high-demand areas. These improvements are part of a broader strategy that includes advanced technology, smart bus stations, and low-emission Euro 6 buses, designed to enhance convenience, accessibility, and sustainability.
