Dubai’s Al Maktoum Bridge set to reopen next week after months of maintenance

Dubai’s Al Maktoum Bridge, a vital link between Bur Dubai and Deira, will fully reopen to traffic on January 16 following five months of extensive maintenance, the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has announced.

The project aimed to improve the safety and durability of Dubai’s oldest bridge, which has been a key connection across the Dubai Creek since its construction in 1963. The maintenance involved phased closures since September, including full-day closures on Sundays and nightly shutdowns during weekdays, causing commuters to use alternative routes like the Infinity Bridge, Al Shindagha Tunnel, and Business Bay Crossing.

According to the RTA, the maintenance ensures the bridge meets modern safety standards and remains reliable for the growing city. The bridge has played a significant role in connecting Dubai’s historic Bur Dubai district, home to attractions like the Dubai Frame, with Deira, known for its bustling Gold Souq and Clocktower.

With the reopening, the RTA plans to introduce advanced traffic management systems to reduce congestion and improve travel times, especially during peak hours. The move is expected to restore smoother commutes between two of Dubai’s busiest districts.
