Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has launched an advanced traffic signal control system, integrating artificial intelligence (AI), predictive analytics, and digital twin technology to enhance road efficiency. The new system, known as UTC-UX Fusion, will be deployed at major intersections across the city, with completion expected by mid-2026.
According to a Khaleej Times report, the initiative supports Dubai’s goal of becoming a smart and sustainable city by optimizing traffic flow and reducing congestion. According to Hussain Al Banna, CEO of RTA’s Traffic and Roads Agency, the system is designed to cut wait times at intersections by 10 to 20 percent, benefiting all road users, including motorists, public transport passengers, pedestrians, and cyclists.
The upgraded system will analyze real-time traffic patterns, predict congestion, and dynamically adjust signal timings. Using digital twin technology, RTA can simulate traffic conditions before implementing changes, ensuring smoother mobility. Additionally, the system will prioritize emergency vehicles and integrate with future smart transport technologies, such as Cooperative Intelligent Transport Systems (C-ITS), to improve communication between vehicles and signals.
