Dubai has unveiled an ambitious AED55-million plan for its first underwater floating mosque. According to concept designs released to Khaleej Times, the mosque’s architecture will straddle both above and below water surfaces. The above-water section will house sitting areas and a coffee shop.
The mosque will span three levels, with the most unique feature being its underwater deck designated for prayers. This submerged section will also be equipped with ablution facilities and washrooms, offering worshippers a one-of-a-kind experience of praying beneath the waves.
This innovative religious structure is part of the religious tourism project initiative by the Islamic Affairs and Charitable Activities Department (IACAD) in Dubai. Ahmed Al Mansoori, a representative from IACAD, informed Khaleej Times that construction would commence in the near future.
While the precise location of the mosque remains undisclosed, Al Mansoori hinted that it would be situated near the shore and accessible via a bridge from the mainland.
