An Emirati teenager has been fined Dh1,000 for breaching public decency laws after leaving an offensive handwritten note on a woman’s car in a public parking lot near a café in Port Rashid.
According to a Khaleej Times report, the incident occurred on November 10, 2023, when the woman, who was also Emirati, parked her car and entered the café with her husband. An hour later, her husband discovered the inappropriate note on their white Mercedes and immediately reported it to authorities.
Police investigations, aided by surveillance footage, identified the 19-year-old, who confessed to writing the note as a prank. The young man admitted he had no prior connection to the car owner and claimed his intent was to provoke a reaction.
The defendant expressed regret during questioning and in court, where he pleaded guilty to the charges. Despite reconciling with the complainant, the court emphasized the seriousness of the offence and imposed the fine under Federal Law No. 31 of 2021 on crimes and penalties.
