Dubai surfer goes viral for riding waves while holding PH flag in tribute to Pinoy community

Dubai-based content creator and entrepreneur Karolina Agata Sankiewicz has gone viral for a powerful and visually stunning tribute to the Filipino community. In a now-viral Facebook Reel that has surpassed 6 million views, Karolina can be seen wakesurfing across Dubai waters in a traditional Filipiniana outfit—while proudly waving the Philippine flag.

The video, posted just days ahead of Philippine Independence Day, captured massive attention online not only for its bold visuals but for the sentiment behind it. Dressed in a shimmering modern Filipiniana with heels on a surfboard, Karolina’s act was both daring and heartfelt.

“I decided to create the video with 🇵🇭 flag as my team members Richard Napenas, Daryll James Mabale, and @archiemanz are from the Philippines,” she wrote in a separate post. “We wanted to honor Filipino culture and community—especially here in the UAE, where the Filipino community is such a vibrant and essential part of society.”

Known to many as the “Barbie Dubai Surfer,” Karolina is recognized for her playful and high-concept surfing videos. But this particular tribute struck a deeper emotional chord with many viewers, with thousands leaving comments of appreciation and pride.

Filipinos in the UAE, where they form one of the largest expat communities, lauded the gesture as a meaningful show of respect and cultural solidarity.

“This is for you, Philippines. I love you,” Karolina ended her message.
